The early year Opti's earned the nickname optibomb, Merc learned from their mistakes and the newer Opti's are good motors. Yamaha still makes the 200 HPDI and given clean fuel they are close to bullet proof, and with the ETEC's their are a lot of varried opinions, I do know when they are running correctly they are awesome, quiet and fuel efficient. The one very common denominator with all brands of direct injection 2 strokes is the simple fact that they are complex designs and a very compenent tech is a must. My observation is it is very difficult to find someone with the skill and knowledge to repair these motors correctly and quickly, there are guys out there, just not many of them.
