Ooops - I did not pick that up and sorry if I pooped on your inheritance, but the opinion stands. Fresh water you'll be fine but it's not going to last in the salt/rougher waters.
At some point older boats, especially lesser brands are not worth sinking money into since you are less likely to get that money back.
