J2 - Jumbo Chops

The real McCoy Jumbo Porgies bit today, when you could keep the Seabass off the hooks. 2 pounders plus, most had two or 3 dozen a few with more. These are the "smokers" just like we catch offshore.

With all of the closures, the lowly porgy has been a savior! This has been the best porgy fishing in years. I got out on a party boat on Tuesday. I easily put 50 fish in the cooler. I even had time to eat lunch and soak up some sunshine!

Yum,Yum! And there are many ways to eat them. Filleted with the skin on or off. Gutted and grilled whole. Gutted and scaled and grilled whole. Great for Cerviche too! Deep fried fillets are like seabass.

You are right about the lowly porgy saving the day. As long as they are "Montauk" size they will put customers on the rails. On light tackle, they fight like fish much bigger than their size.

Agreed! And don't forget gutted, scaled and fried. Especially for 10 inch specimens. Keep the head on for flavor. Just dip in seasoned flour, then fry in veggie oil for 5 minutes per side. Delicious!
On light tackle they are really fun to catch. Among bottom fish, more fun to catch than sea bass or ling, in my opinion.

Yes Porgy's to the rescue! The big ones put up a great fight. They are a little tricky to catch at times. And they are excellent to eat and are abundant! How many times have we gone out for Fluke without a bite for hours or catch nothing but shorts! Get out there now the action is hot and it's a good time to stock up for the winter! Tight Lines!

Deep fried jumbo porgies gutted and with scales still on! Peel off the skin before eating and have at it.
