Fuel filter replacement

Question. Do you change fuel filters before winterization or in the spring ?

Thx. Bc.

In the spring so they don't have old fuel sitting in them for 4-5 months.

Ok thanks. Was debating because there must be some water in them now?

If that's you concern, you can drain the bowl.

Always drain the separator owls. Always Not just once a year. The separator is there for that in every tank run through it.

Your fuel lines are filled with old gas. So April or November change out the next fuel to enter the fuel water separator is last years fuel in the fuel lines from the tank's pickup tube. So it matters little .

In fact the April startup should be pumping your most stratified ( separated) fuel after settling for 5 or 6 months.

I write the install dates on my Racors so I know when it was changed too, Same as oil filter cartridges. Reminds you every time you look at it. Yea- self nagging. LOL

I guess there are 2 types filters. The spin on filters and also an internal, filter. Was told Suzuki recommended replacing internal filter. Every 3 years. The spin on is what I am referencing. Thx. Bc.

If you have a Suzuki 4 stroke, there's the paper element filter right in front of the engine in the little bowl, then a low pressure fuel filter, and last a high pressure fuel filter. And you probably have the spin on racor filter before the engine.

You should replace the racor every spring, they recommend the paper element I think every 2 years, the low pressure filter every 500 hours I think and the high pressure filter every 1000 hours.
Order a service manual from Brown's point marine. Worth the money.
