9er umbrella rigs

What is the preferred rod for puling them, I've seen Maja rods, wire line rods etc. Reason I ask, my friend gave me two rigs, one with shads and one with tubes. Looking troll along with my spoons and mojos.

I use my spoon rods, rigged with wire line. Just be aware, don't pull the shad umbrella if there are blues around, you'll pull it up with nothing but the heads of the shads left on the umbrella.

Re: 9er umbrella rigs

Nothing special needed to troll umbrella rigs... 30 pound class conventional rod and a matching conventional reel should do it. Braided line would be great but mono would be OK too... If using braid you probably want the last 7 or 8 feet attached to the umbrealla rig to be 50 pound mono since it makes it safer to land/leader the fish. If you plan to troll a lot, then a slick butt rod is preferred since it makes it easier to get out of the rod holder when its under load.

Do you recommend tekota 600, 700, or 800 for these rigs?

The rigs are best run via wire set up 8-9' rods with moderate tapers 30# class works well .
With wire the rods tapers must be able to absorb the shock of sometimes multiple hookups of big fish !
Like mentioned slick butt rods allow for ease of realase under a load . Shorten wire lengths by adding drail to head of rigs foe better control on turns . When trolling the rigs mid depths no issue if ur in rocky areas u can get stuck easily so pay attention to ur depths and how u perform ur turns .
Landing fish on umbrella rigs it always easier to reel in close grab main frame & lift fish over gunwale !
Trying to hand line is a lot tougher so on ur leader connection use a barrel swivel, small enough to run theu ur guides with no issue .
Multiple hookups are common especially If blues crash em' , you will finf out soon enough u never know what ur gonna get on UR's , one year we caught a record class Bonitio on one & I personally landed 150 # thresher !
