7/29/2017 I caught and released a 26" 6.5 lb channel catfish in the tidal Delaware River with my homemade corn meal bait.

Yes, I keep the carp because they are a non-native invasive species and released carp are impossible to catch again. I released a 10 lb channel catfish in the Millstone River a few years ago. I hope to catch it again and win a NJ Skillful Angler Award.

12 lb test. I only use 2 lb test for ultralight jigging when the carp aren't biting and usually catch small panfish. Occasionally I hook a big fish on a 1/32 oz jig on 2 lb test line.

That's good thinking. Good luck with that channel cat, that would make quite the story

I'm not gonna lie only carp fished once and then got one by accident two years ago(slob, on my ultralight catching crappie) why would released carp be impossible to catch again? I know English carp fishing they only catch and release.
Do u eat them? I don't know carp so I'm very curious

You can recapture the same carp, he's just not a great carp fisherman. Btw, they're not invasive. They are an introduced non native species in NJ, just like largemouth bass, brown and rainbow trout, musky, pike, walleye etc...

Nice channel cat.

I have to question the assumption a released carp become uncatchable. In Europe in certain pay-lakes, they catch-and-release the same carps over-and-over again. The operation wouldn't work if they couldn't be caught again.

I read on the Internet that the guy who caught the biggest carp in England donated it to the Royal Aquarium. Whenever he would feed it, the carp would never eat the bait that he caught it on. I made > 140 NJ fresh water fishing trips in crowded public fishing areas and didn't see anybody catch a carp yet this year.
