Fishing in Liberty park

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to try fishing liberty park because its close to home and I hear some people do well. Does anyone know if some areas are better than others? I saw on a map that there is walk bridge but the area looks to be only 12-15' deep. And some people say the north point on the charter house side.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks

I have lived in Jersey City all my life. There are bass in the Hudson river all year. You'll see boats anchored and fishing just outside of Ellis Island that are chunking for big keeper bass.
However....
The problem about fishing from shore is landing a fish after hooking one. The entire area left and right of the foot bridge is productive. Climbing down on the rocks is what I used to do until I was threatened with a summons. So I guess you need to do what people do from tall piers and stay on the bridge.
Oh and the bottom is really sticky.

The Hyatt pier at Exchange Place produces. All the regulars there have long nets.

I saw on the topographical map that the north point behind the liberty house get 18-30' deep. I'm just scouting places to bring my little minion.

Southernmost point is a popular spot. You can cast into the recreational channel - but once again the rocks are there.

I have fished near the flags in the park but like said, there is a small fence, more of a railing which passing over and onto the rocks is frowned upon.
You can cast over the railing and fish just fine. In the event you hook up you can deal with the landing then.
I don't believe the bridge to the statue itself is open but if you can get in the island you can find some deeper water off the channel.
There is a nice kayak launch in the park which may be an option.
Have not been there in a while bit like said it's close to home and is completely fishable waters

Thanks everyone for the info... I did get a warning on the rocks:rolleyes:

but my kid and his friends had a killer time with all the blues and the single bass they got.

Infecting the youth of America with the addiction of fishing is awesome!
