Crabbing Boat Rental Advice Needed

We usually do the dock thing around Point Pleasant but wanted to rent a boat and take the boys. Any and all advice is appreciated. Also does tide matter when crabbing from a boat?

I don't mind driving if it's worth it. Thanks in advance.

oceanic marina to crab the navesink

tide does matter

in the river, when the tide is screaming it is difficult to use drop lines

JP their is a place at the corner of Beaver Dam Rd and Princeton ave on the Beaver Dam Creek that rents little skiffs, crabbing has always been good in their it has no real tidal flow and no boat wake

I've rented from these guys many times. Bob is great over there and tend to do pretty well under the bridge and when the tide changes hit the grassy shallows which are nearby across from the houses.

Good Luck.

Crabbe down in Ocean County yesterday from land. It's a popular place that is roadside convenient.
Crabs were small, mostly 3 inches. Bunker and chicken, it didn't matter, slack tide, moving tide, didn't matter.
Only had 3 keepers in 5 hours. Kinda depressing.
If it was up to me we would have moved spots but the wife and kids were content.
We had fun none the less.

Yes this is where Rich from R.L. ended up. I believe they still rent the boats!

They still rent boats, I see them all the time from my parents dock since they are right down the street from them
