Bluefin Tuna Regs Changing

If I read this correctly, looks like we can't keep the one trophy fish per year over 73 inches that was allowed in the prior regs.

So effective 8/6 the regs are

Private boats:
2 between 27 and 47 inches
1 between 47 and 73 inches

Charter/Head Boat
3 between 27 and 47 inches
1 between 47 and 73 inches

whats even most messed up is it was only 1 trophy fish per boat for the season already.
yet the commercial guys can pound them and for the most part those fish they catch arent even consumed in the USA.
yet the fisherman who would be both spending their money to fish , as well as consume their fish here get limited.

.

Yep - Seems a shame that we take it in the shorts again.... Other then down in NC in the winter, I find it hard to believe the trophy sized recreational Bluefin landings @ 1 per boat could amount to much, although up in Mass and Maine I guess it could.

Could not agree more. Only spawning giants and the''choosen few''. All goes to Japan. If they were abundant i would not care. If they were abundant they would not worth so much money. At times they were allowed four giants per day. Fisheries management at it's best as usual.
