It's OPEN! Superintendent John J. Donahue announced today that construction on the motor boat launch at Kittatinny Point is finished and the launch is now open to the public. “Completing this project allows boaters access to the deepest section of the river within the park, right in the heart of the Delaware Water Gap, something they have not been able to do for about 10 years,” explained Donahue. “And with the warm weather we’ve been having, anglers can still get in some fishing this season.”

Severe flooding associated with several hurricanes between 2004 and 2006 destroyed the boat launch resulting in its closure. The canoe launch, located about 200 yards upstream, remained open. There is limited access to this section of the river from other launch points. The project was funded by the Middle Delaware Mitigation Fund in compensation for the impacts of the Susquehanna to Roseland transmission line upgrade project on park resources and visitors

Shit. Why?
That was a fine launch/pick-up area for kayaks and canoes.
That parking lot is always filled (except for people with some type of permit) unless you launch really early in the morning, anyway.
There's a boat launch a few miles up river that anybody can use for free.

I guess I'm just get exhausted from the massive over-crowding in the DWGNRA section of river. Especially from the insufferable hordes of people from New York. Adding another boat ramp just adds to the over-crowding and over-harvest of bass.

Take out some insurance for the warm weather months. Somebody's guaranteed to run over a bather, kayaker or float tuber. This place is a hot mess in the warm weather months.

wow, i checked the ramp over the summer and it was so grown in i could hardly find the entrance. I'm going this weekend.

can someone with bass boat navigate this section of the delaware safely?

Not unless the water is up, like in the spring. There are shallow, rocky rapids near by, so you are pretty limited as to how far upstream or downstream you can travel from this launch unless you don't mind wacking your boat up on boulders. If you had a jet boat, it would be a different story. There are much better/safer/less expensive places to launch a bass boat.

Boat launch looks fantastic. Have a hard time understanding the argument against improving the access point at the Visitor's Center. I fully understand boat traffic and inherent risks between power boats and maybe 2,000 tubes, kayaks and canoes on weekends during the summer but we have that now. Traffic on that river from non fishing parties is nothing less than insane during the summer and don't think improving the launch is going to make matters that much worse. Problem is we have an incredibly beautiful river centrally located and in close proximity to three major metropolitan cities. With rapids above the 80 bridge and rapids below the bend, most of the fishing unless high water prevails will be restricted to a relatively small area of the river. Popular but small. Not convinced it's going to have a major impact or make conditions much worse than they already are with the booz cruise crowd on weekends during the summer. Either way, it's a national park and personally think the improvement is money well spent. The launch there beforehand was nothing more than a bumpy mess! Time will tell.

Eskimo what impacted the bass fishing at that stage of the river more than anything else was the Columnaris virus in 2010 and a few years subsequent to that. Whatever the cause is which still has biologists stumped, it devastated and damn near wiped out the small mouth fishery in the Water Gap and other areas both north and south of the Gap. Again don't think a new ramp is going to have much impact on that fishery if at all and is probably number 25 on a list of factors contributing to the overall health of the system.
