Deal Lake Dredging

A contract to remove sand pushed by super storm Sandy into Deal Lake (Monmouth Co.) will make the lake more accessible for recreation and restore natural flushing of the lake. The project will reduce flooding, improve water quality and reopen recreational opportunities for boaters, anglers, canoeists, kayakers, paddle boaters and nature lovers.

For details on the contract, including the state and federal agencies and towns involved and affected, as well as information on Deal Lake, visit http://www.state.nj.us/dep/newsrel/2015/15_0083.htm on the NJDEP website.

Why is the sand bad for the lake?

I just noticed the lake is close to my parent's place , and I've been there a lot lately looking after dad while mom is rehabbing from a broken leg. I often bring some of my fishing tackle and this looks like a good option. How's the bass fishing been since Sandy? Are there places to fish from shore?

The entire lower end of the lake east of the train tracks is pretty accessible from shore. I haven't been there since Sandy, but prior to that bass fishing was decent at best.
