Flywheel wont turn forward only back
 

Took my 21ft out today with a 2001 200hp johnson on the back. Got out about 5 miles and she sounding as if I picked something up in the prop but in the matter of 10 seconds the engine cut off. Check the prop it was clean so i Went to start it and nothing. Thought my battery died. Got towed in abd went and got 2 new batteries tried starting her and small nlist like she ain't getting juice and then nothing. Took the cover off the outboard and tried to turn the wheel by hand but only went about a forth of a crank and thwn would act as if it locked... does spin backwards and then forward but only til it hits that lock spot. Read it could be a bad battery connection which I'm hoping but I really have no clue. This ever happen to anyone? Any feed back is much appreciated.

Look at your starter wheel that make contact with the flywheel sometimes it will get stuck and u will have to mess with it to work it back down good luck

Hey Katch thanks for the quick response. I check it out it doesn't seem to be engaged. I got a guy coming to the dock to take a look at it hopefully he's got a answer for me. Thanks again

Could be wrong, but the flywheel wont spin a full cycle with the plugs in. That would be your compression point that make the boat go ZOOM!

Try removing the plugs and give it a whirl.

You were running along and heard noise then it shut down? New batts won't crank it over and by hand it binds up?

Hope I'm wrong but sounds like a major breakage. Connecting rod let loose and jamming up in the block? Like I said hope I'm wrong. Let us know the outcome.

does not sound good.... If the flywheel is turning one way and not the other could be the lower unit gear or shaft that is causing your issue. If so, a much easier and less expensive fix then a power head.

I unfortunately agree. That "stop" is mechanical. Something it stopping the crank shaft.

Well mechanic finally took a look today and the outcome wasn't good. Blew my #4 piston and looks like it's gonna coat more than I can afford right now. I'll be sailing the sponsors for the rest of the year. Thanks again everyone for the advice
