I know that the TE is discontiued is the B model just as good?

The B is very easy to cast, and a nice reel to fish, but the TE was much more expensive, from which you can draw a reasonable conclusion.

TE was the ultimate casting reel in its day. CT-B is great reel but you are not comparing apples with apples. If your main goal is casting then look at Calcutta D. If you just want an all around very good baitcasting reel then go with CT-B. I would stay away from a TE as in time there will be a parts availability issue.
