Baitrunner Reel for Shinano Trevala 6'6 for Stripers

Looking for advice on baitrunner reels for the TVS66MH. I was thinking a Shimano Baitrunner either the 4000D or 6000D. I want the lightest set up possible without sacrificing enough power to bring in Big bass live-lining. The 6000 is about 6.6 oz heavier then then 4000 and I'm worried it may be too large. The 4000 has 15 pounds of drag which is less then the 6000, which had 20lb drag. Any advice? I'm leaning towards the 4000 right now.

Chris,
We use the Shimano Thunnus 6000. They are awesome and have not had a problem with them at all.

You know my suggestion, but I wouldn't worry about drag capacity. We use Avets with only 9lbs of drag/14lb max...

Yep - 15 lbs of drag should be plenty. You should be fishing your drag on 1/4 of the breaking test of your line, so you are good unless you are fishing with over 60 pound test line.

I'm fishing with the Shimano 8000 bait runner... Great reel but probably overkill for what we do inshore.

Like MRAC menitioned above, my Avet SX with only 9 lbs of drag at strike didn't even break a sweat when live lining and I never even had to think about going to full.

The Thunnus is the way to go. So much lighter and worth the extra money.

Chris

Go take a look at it in person at Atlantic Bait & Tackle.. Pete let me take a bucktail rod out last season to demo it.. i ended up with my limit and purchased the rod after the trip.. i dont know of any other tackle shop or retailer that will allow you to demo the product.. just shows pete is one of a kind and willing to go the extra mile for the customer.. i have the 6500 has been perfect for on the boat and off the surf

Chris,

I use a Shimano sustain 4000 and I have caught many big bass without a problem. 15 lbs of drag are more than enough. I would take Pete up on his tremendous offer. I am with you and want the lightest possible set up that will get the job done.
