bigeye tuna stomach contents

Hey guys I have my wheels turning in my head and I want to throw top water lures and try to get a bigeye to eat when they come up. Just curious what guys have seen in the stomachs of bigeyes you have caught so I can try and match the hatch.

As a predator in the middle of the ocean, we have come to realize they will eat almost anything that's swimming. Most often they are loaded with squid and that makes sense because that is the most abundant food source for them, and they spend most of there time in deep in the water column. Just try and match your bait to the hatch and if that isn't working, pull a complete 180 and try something the opposite as that may be able to draw more attention.

Good Luck

Thanks for the help guys. My plan is to throw top water when we get a strike while trolling. When I was fishing on the green stick boat the fish come up and eat the squids sometimes in mid air, which is effective as hell even though I have never seen a squid jump out of the water. Figured when they come up throw something that looks like what they might be eating and throws some water to get their attention. I think I am going to try and make something to imitate a skipjacks profile. If it works I will let you know.

big eye tuna are opportunistic feeders, they stay deep way down and feed on squid, come up several times a day and night to get air and then go back down, when they come up,if something is there they will eat it, no matter what it is, thus why they come up in packs, does not matter what is there.

if you catch one in the morning, and work that area all day long, good chance they will come up again at some point
