Tuna Fishing

Got an invite from dock neihborhood and fellow board member Kevin (aka Islander) to do some Tuna fishing... Reports from the prior day were bleak but Kevin was determined so me, him, Chris and Tim (aka Sven of the Hook) set out at o dark thirty and arrived at the grounds at 8:30ish and set out the spread.

First up was a nice Bull Mahi that went in the low teens which was followed by a small Yellowfin. Next up rigger goes off and we come tight on a bigger fish which turns out to be a 40 pound class Yellowfin. Half hour later we double up on another 2 smaller Yellowfin and a rat Mahi. Must have been 1:00 or so by then and we trolled till 3:30 with out another touch.

Pulled in the spread and tired to pot some more Mahi on the way in but it was pretty windy by then and no one was home on the half dozen pots we stopped on.

Great trip, good company and fresh Tuna and Mahi for dinner.

Thanks for the invite Kevin. You are on roll with these Tuna.

It wasn't perfect but close to. 2 ft with an occasional 3 mixed in. We ran straight into the SE breeze on our way out and still managed 25 to 27 knots.. Only slammed once or twice so the deep v of the Carolina Classic really sucked it up nice. Run back in was more comfortable since we had them at our back. Windshield only got wet once or twice which was right around the hook where it's usually a little sloppy.

I thought I heard you on the radio that day Freddy...Looks like you loaded up, nice job. A lot of fun when you can jig them up.

Spoke to our common friend Tony from Back Bay/The Ark out there as well and I think he got 3 Yellowfin before it died out.

Nice trip, with the way the fan is turned on it may be tough to find another window.
