Opinions on where to take my son fishing

So I've been telling my son for two years that when he turned six I would take him in the ocean to go fishing. He turned six a couple weeks ago and has only been reminding me 37 times a day he's ready to go in the ocean. He has gotten his fill of snappers and schooley bass in the rivers but now I want him to feel a bigger tug on his line. Where would you go and what would you fish for if it was you? Have my own boat and really just want to see his rod double over a bunch of times. Was thinking blues at the mud buoy but haven't seen any reports yet. I sail out of the Shrewsberry River.

Any suggestions are appreciated. Thank you
:):p;)

Try shrewsburry rocks. Should have good mix of fluke and maube some seabass. Just watch the weather.

Not sure where you are out of. I have the same situation with my grandson. Here's my thoughts. I'm out of Leonardo. I want to keep him close in case it gets lumpy because the weather man is usually wrong. I want him comfortable the first few times so he can see home port and feel like he's safe. My plan just inside the tip of the hook do some fluke and a bit of bottom fishing on a few rock piles I know. Not sure how he will react so I'm staying close in case he wants to go back. I want him to be my fishing buddy for the rest of my life :D

Big bluefish are back in Raritan Bay chasing bunker. If I wanted to take a kid to catch something powerful, that would be.my choice.

Still a lot of fluke in the Shrews river channel. Mostly shorts but still some keepers mixed in. Killies and the Wonder Rig - perfect match for a youngster. I know it's not the ocean - but these fluke are fun to catch.

Nice idea and the post about watching the weather is right on. I would head North from your inlet and just stop on the first fleet if boats. If it's after 7AM the ocean will reveal a number of places to stop. Make sure he has a well fitting PFD.

I have three grown sons now and Yes that all say they want to catch the big one but in reality at that age numbers count!! I would go to the Sandy Hook reef find a good pile of junk and let him catch Porgys/Sea Bass all day long...they all pull hard on light tackle and he'll gain some experience on setting the hook.

Some good suggestions on where. As for when I think this weekend is going to be the best weather we've had for while. Sat. + Sun both look great.
