Another Skunksville day.
Headed over to Monksville mainly to test my outboard out to make sure it's still working, before our Round Valley camping trip in two weeks.
Of course I brought my fishing gear along. Worked the standing timber on the north end with a tube jig, Rat-L-Trap and a Carolina rigged Thumper, but got nothing. I then worked the shore on the west side of the lake with the tube, an unweighted Senko, Rapala and a Zoom fluke, but nada. I finished up trolling the Rat-L-Trap and a Binsky about 50 feet from shore. Another skunksville. I passed a guy obviously out for muskie. He was casting a lure almost as long as my forearm. Also chatted with a few other guys who were fishing from boats and the shore, but nobody had caught a thing. |
Re: Another Skunksville day.
I've been there twice and fished from shore, both times I've caught a pickerel and a bass within the first hour and half and caught nothing for the rest of the day. Strange.

Justin, that's not strange.....It's totally normal. :D

Re: Another Skunksville day.
I went last yr with my boat this time of month too right before night and destroyed bass, pikeral, crappies and sunnies. I actually love that lake and think its a great bass fishery. I did better bass fishing there then anywhere else.

That place kills me. I live so close but i know its not worth it. Very similar to cascade lake in warwick, my former honey hole.

Re: Another Skunksville day.
I put in probably half a dozen days there last year and I think I have maybe two small bass to show for it. I've been trying everything, plastics rigged unweighted, Texas, Carolina, shaky head & drop shot. Cranks, topwater, jigs, spinnerbaits. Deep, shallow, casting, trolling. Hitting the timber, the rocks, dropoffs and weeds. One day I even got a bucket of herring, anchored in a few good looking spots and let one swim free, dropped two the bottom on a slip sinker and two on slip bobbers at 5 and 10 feet. Not even a perch in 8 hours. I can't think of anyplace where I spent 8 hours with live bait and didn't catch at least a perch or pickerel.

Re: Another Skunksville day.
My good days there have been in the middle of the night during the herring spawn and early mornings in the summer before 8am.

Last year after about a 3 hour skunk fishing period there, I went to pull the boat out. During the time I pulled out (10 mins), I watched a older gentleman pull out 2 bass right at the launch on Watermelon colored Senkos. He then proceeded to tell me they were catches 4 + 5. I tried dark green Senkos that day a few times and didn't even get a follow. Expect the unexpected at that place. I love to fish it but I can never count on a certain bait to work again if it has in the past. |
Re: Another Skunksville day.
Yea I've heard such good things in the past and I wanna believe them, it's not around the corner from me so I just don't go anymore lol

Re: Another Skunksville day.
I hate that place never catch anything there! Although my brother and his buddies used to kill the eyes and smallies at night on deep diving husky jerks in black and silver a long time ago, maybe it still works don't know. Prob during herring spawn like the other big lakes.
If you do ever figure it out you'll own that lake so keep your lips sealed lol!;) |
