Grinding for the first of 2014
 

Had the day off and have had the itch so I hit the water today. Got out the door just ahead of the front coming through, about noon, only to find my first choice completely iced out. Ok, on to number two. Forge pond was clear of ice so I worked the limited shore access points for a little while. The most convenient spot I found was to be perched on a blowdown out over the water. If that sums it up for shore access there. Nothin' doin' on all manner of small-ish swimbaits. So on to spot number three. Again...ice. So on to spot number four. Waited out the thunderstorm in the car then hit the water. Little spot between our two local malls. Second cast in and I find my reward, 12 inch 1 pound or so LMB. YES!!!! Yeah, it got me that excited, first fish of 2014!! Hooked a tiny slime dart about ten minutes later, both on a bluegill patterned Rapala. Then came the wind shift, it got chilly and that was that. Forty minutes later I packed it in feelin' great. Gonna be at it again tomorrow!!! FISH ON!!!

Keep at it man. The bite might be on this weekend. You got a little taste of spring which is AWESOME. Get it done while you can, bitter cold coming back starting early next week!
