Stripers in December -

Went to the record books (therapy after a tough weekend at home) and found that with the exception of "Sandy" I find multiple Dec 15 - Dec 31 Striper trips. IBSP to SH. Open boats n PB from ALL site sponsors.

No way we can give up this early - I am all for a "exploratory" trip since we dont have any reference points here - I think Capt Sal was the last one to even mention the word striper in a post.

Keith, i will be giving it a go with you guys sat, do my best to get a few others to come.
As for Capt B B you sure got that right, fact is it was Gambler in Dec that got me hooked on the late Jig bite. One of my favorite trips of all times was taking a ride up to the rocks with you guys having a decent jig bite and on the way home snow was building on the beaches, rode home from pt pleasant in half foot snow

See u boys sat. Im sure well get enough to sail.

.

There were also quite a few tuna hook ups for striper guys this time of year. they were getting one or two hook ups per boat. I remember looking over at my friend George who was working the off side and did a double take as he was on his knees plastered to the rail with a good sized brute that took off under the boat and soon broke off. Shame, I mean, what are the odds of slow jigging a tuna on a striper trip?

T - Yes that is always a possible out come - I was on the Golden Eagle in Dec 2011 when the guy who wore white bib n mated on the Renegade (cant remember his name) pulled in a pretty big YFT ona jig, he was targeting them and prepared, hour later it was on deck. I spent many an hour chasing them around striper bite - rare hook up but worth the effort - IMO. 1 more reason to spend my Dec on the Ocean!

Does your record book have weather data, water temps etc?

HydraSportsPT 12-18-2013 05:12 PM

Re: Stripers in December -

Nope- I can assure you that it was cold as hell, It was windy as hell, and most trips we got the crap beat out of us......thats my weather recolection.

Water temps would have been a good one to record - since they were not done on my own boat (PB/Open Charters) I dont think we talked much about the water temps.

Jimmy - Was their a point you were trying to make...?
