Stripes/clamming

Do you think clamming on the knoll will be effective this time of year?

Most bass are caught outside trolling right now.
Between channels and down the beach have been hot

The bass are feeding on sand eels and bunker/butter fish right now, that's why jigging and trolling are so effective. Would a bass turn his nose up at a clam ?? Probably not. When northeaster's come through and break up the clam beds the bass switch to clams, they are very opportunistic, whatever's available they will eat.

Stick with the jigs. Keep an eye out for birds, they have been up all week and get your jigs to the bottom. Not sure I would spend the money on clams especially with all the dogs around during the day.

OK thank you all. I have a couple of stretch 25s and two umbrella rigs. Do I need to weight the umbrellas? What speed should I troll at?

Re: Stripes/clamming

Depends on what line you have and what the weight of the rig is and the current. Braided line will need maybe 7 oz inline sinker and 150' of line at 2.5 knots
