O/B Racor questions...

Just had an o-ring put the kibash on my weekend!!!! Long story..

Where you guys have the filter mounted? Above/below deck? Clear bowl/metal bowl?

Just going through options as I don't like what I have now. Again, long story, will take pics and follow up this weekend.

I know the clear bowls are made for O/B's and above deck mounting but why expose all that to the elements if ya don't have too?

Yes clear bowl for outboards so you can look into the bowl to see if any water has collected. Clear not for inboards since they are usually mounted in engine compartments and plastic does not like heat.

Most people with transom wells mount in the well. If you have a closed transom there is usually space in the aft bulkhead to mount. Try and make as visable/accessable as possible so you can inspect easliy and so you can get something under it to catch fuel if you have to open cockpit and drain the clear bowl.

Just never liked the above deck mounting even if it is convenient. Figured if mounted below deck, it makes for a cleaner looking install and keeps everything out of the elements.

I know the clear bowl is for above deck but have seen metal bowls mounted above deck by guys for various reasons. Just thought of going that route.

Mine is mounted in the splash well, IMO too low. Drain petcock takes a beating from fish flopping around (rare with me...:D ) but also from a deck brush.

Thought of somehow recess mounting this in the same area as well???? Just looking for input to as what guys have.

I think they MUST be mounted above deck.

For what its worth....got on the phone with Parker and spoke to a rep. Very helpful and went through different options of what I could do, what bowls fit what filters and different drain plug configurations. Easy company to deal and communicate with.

Think Im going this route for a cleaner looking flush install ......http://ssicustomplastics.com/product...product_id=190

The clear plastic part sight glass part is where the restriction part comes in with USCG.

Supposed to be above deck with inboard engines. Below deck with outboards.

With all metal separators it does not matter ehre mounted.

Although I've seen 100's of plastic see thru separatros mounted in the splashwell next to the O/B.

The plastic bowl drain is useless if you can't get to it, or put a drain cup under it. Go figure. YOu'd dont want some to stand on it, but you don't want it buried and useless either.
