I know a lot of guys like to use gamis and octopus hooks. I always use size 3 Virginia hooks and I snell them with 40lb straight leader.

Someone gave me a box of Mustad Big Gun 2/0 hooks to try. Anyone ever use them? Don't think i'm a fan of the straight shank for snelling.

(yes this pic of 4/0, just for ref)

Re: Tog Hook and Size

I usually use 4/0 gami with green crabs and virigina #3 with white leggers, no real reason that's just what I use!

Mustad Big Gun are tops and very sharp. The Gamis are good but they will bend if you get hung up. Never had that problem with the big gun. Hard to find the Big gun hooks at local tackle shops ( really don't know why ).

Re: Tog Hook and Size

Probably cause of the cost. Looking online they aren't cheap! Def more money then the Octos.
