Re: NJF Gambler Reports?
1 longfin was boated early the morning Thursday. Trolled Wednesday for a bit on the way out, pot hopped for mahi for a few hours. Set up for the chunk Wed night. Had a blue dog on and a few swords but none were boated. I crashed for a few hours around 2am Thursday after no tuna action. Jigged for a while Thurs morning, nothing. Trolled for about 2-3 miles to another spot. Guys were dropping for tiles. A few 20+lb tiles were boated and a bunch of smaller tiles. Pot hopped for more mahi and jigged a little more before Captain Bob pulled the plug. 1 longfin, I'd guess 30-40 mahi and the same for tile. I could be off on those numbers but I'm sure someone will clarify totals.

Jay-
6 pack vs head boat . That would make for a great debate!!! I would say I favor the head boats for tuna, my reasons are 1. I like a bigger boat, if it gets nasty on the ride out or back!! and sitting on anchor in 4-7 ft seas a head is still pretty stable 2. Cash 3. I like the longer 48 plus type trips not many charters do that 4. More lines in the water means more chance to hook up and see what the fish want. 5. unless the charter is out everyday the head boats are out there and know whats going on. 6. I favor the Gambler because it is the best damn boat around Capt and crew are second to none. Everyone has their favorites and so do I. How many boats start off ther 48 hour trips with a prayer??? Gotta give to the Gambler !!! MY 2 cents BC |
Re: NJF Gambler Reports?
BC, well said. I'm with you Brother ! Also Large Boats have the edge when the Season starts to wane and storms /winds pick up . Some of our best trips have been in less than Ideal Conditions. There are advantages to both large and small. We are blessed to have so many Great Captains/boats to choose from .

Well said. I agree with you with the Gambler is one of the best boats out there. This is why I said "I assume". I'm not a Tuna fishing fanatic like you and most if the guys here. I tip my hat to you guys and the Head boats for fishing hard as you do for them. Best, Jay |
