Skates anyone?

Hey All,

Someone out here needs some Skates for a research project. We'll be out Wednesday dragging some nets along the bottom off of Sandy Hook if you see us out there in our 48 Ft NOAA research vessel.

Any hot tips would be appreciated...we'll probably hit deep channels and the beach fronts...

I am sure most people on this site would give you all of the skates they catch. In terms or research, they seem to multiply fast :D

We found some Skates that will do. In addition we found..

Croakers and Spot inside SH.
Winter Flounder deep at SH channel 1-3 buoys
Some small Dogfish
Windowpane flounder along the beaches
Spotted Hake
Spider crabs, Blue Crabs, Lady Crabs, Hermit Crabs, Horseshoe crabs
Not many fluke-but we weren't after them and stayed away from the fleet.

I am amazed that you did not snag a sea robin. Sandy Hook is infested with those things.

We also got a few sea robins!

and 3-6 inch squid in every trawl-gee that would make a good bait choice!
