My buddy and I have the full day tomorrow for the first time in a while. He wants some toothy critters I want my first nj smallmouth. My choices are

A. Smartswood
B. mountain
C. Passaic
D. Other

Passaic is likely to be high and chocolatey after the endless storms.

Are you fishing from shore or a boat?

The Passaic is pretty messy right now. For water clarity purposes, I'd probably go with Swartswood or Mountain.

by boat or off land? makes a huge difference. If you want teeth mountain or oxford is your best bet. For SM nothing on your list is great, swartswood would be best on that list. There is a certain permit based reservoir that is loaded with both of them, need permit and boat to have good success

Fish the pads & brush on D. Budd Lake. Toothy critters & lmb in there. Smallies probably along the rocky side. Launch at Doc's Marina.

Greenwood Lake on the New York end could be your ans. to catching both your choices..Has Walleye, pickerel and Musky for the toothy critters..Smallies have come back strong along the rocky shore along the East Shore road..But if you have Newark watershed permits then I believe you'll solve your problem Just check their paperwork on what species are in residence in the particular bodies of water available by permit..believe me they have smallies big time and a number of toothy critters to make it interesting.. And lots of largemouth to pick up the slack.. Good luck

+1. Bad thing about the sheds is the 8am open for permit sales.....

If you was Small Mouth I would do Merrill Creek, hard to beat!
