Cicadas as Bait?
I am starting to see the larvae emerge in my yard.
They look like small Gulp when they first come up. Has anyone ever tries these as bait? I am going to put some in the freezer and take out this weekend. hey, you never know. |
Re: Cicadas as Bait?
I imagine they'd be good for trout and panfish, esp. after a rain.

Re: Cicadas as Bait?
Unsure about the larvae, but last time the 17 year came out my father and I would find live adults and put them on a small hook and toss them out on the water. They would go crazy on the surface! Within seconds you'd have a nice Large mouth bass absolutely inhale these things!
Tough life to be in the ground for 17 years, finally come out to breed for a couple weeks, get caught, thrown on a hook and eaten...but it was pretty fun to see the bass come up and grab them.... |
