So we are splashed now!!!!! Yes!!

But we got the boat with a windshield that looks like the saltwater was allowed to bake in the sun for a while, long while, and seems it "etched" out spots in it, way beyond any elbow grease and a towel.

My question is has anyone come across this and what was your solution, I'm thinking some kind of really fine wet sanding or aggressive polish that isn't going to haze over the glass...
That's my dilemma now. Thanks in advance for any info!

dont know if it will work, but what about some kind of headlight restorer?

-first check price of replacement, youre in for a tedious solution.

-if youre still going to clean, watch your kids closely and pounce when one of them does something bad enough to dole out this chore as punishment.

-TRY an area with a lemon. cut the lemon in half and scrub on saturating the area, more is better in this case (and i have never had success with lemon juice, the cut lemon works best)
if you see the deposits loosening, keep at it. this is going to take several applications

-if the lemon method doesnt work, go with a 1/4 cup of vinegar to 2 quarts water. the key here is to allow the area to soak, not so easy on a vertical surface. Saturate a clean, WHITE towel and lay on the surface. When it appears to be drying, use a squirt bottle of the solution to keep the towel saturated.
if the deposits are crusty, use a PLASTIC scraper (NOT a razor blade) and scrape as you would an ice crusted car window. the edge of a credit card works.

youre only going to get an acceptable result, but once youve got it, treat the windows with rainx to keep the weathered glass from pitting again.

FLITZ Use sparingly, works wonders on plastic curtains. Cleaned all my enclosure with it and a flitz wheel, can also use a buffing wheel but not too much pressure or you will burn the plastic. Works wonders.

Thanks guys,... I feel this may be a failed mission , but I'll try all suggestions, at least it's not something worse...

I agree flitz is a great product just dont use to much preasure if using thier wheel.

I think this month's Boating Magazine did comparisons on that stuff. Perfect for you.

Need a drill to polish. I used Maguire's Not bad. I think 3M is supposed to be the best according to their evaluation.

75% white vinegar and 25% water + 100% elbow grease will cut the deposit.
Thiss is what we do to clean hard water stains on fish tank glass. Lime said soak towel and let sit wet on the glass. I use a razor blade and jever had a problem, just make it us always a sharp edge and use one of those blade holders because vinegqr in a cut burns real bad.
