The NJ DEP has announced the availability of a mobile application designed to provide information and technology to guide and enhance users' hunting, fishing and wildlife watching experiences in New Jersey.

The free Pocket Ranger(r) New Jersey Fish and Wildlife application is a cutting-edge mobile app that provides on-the-spot information on the state's fish and wildlife species along with extensive information on access points for hunting, fishing, boating and wildlife watching on all of New Jersey's wildlife management areas, state parks and forests, and other public open spaces.

The application has powerful GPS capabilities including a Friend Finder feature that allows users to keep track of the location of friends and family enjoying the outdoors together. As an added safety utility, Pocket Ranger has an alert feature that notifies select contacts of your GPS coordinates in the event of an emergency.

There are no secret places. People think they have found one but they do not exist. Only secret spots are those you find when your trespassing which a anglers here can attest:p

Downloaded it last week, pretty cool app. Uses GPS to show fishing spots in your vicinity or to share with a friend, has NJ species and lake specific info, has rules and regulations (min. fish size/bag), skillful angler info and state record info...lots more I haven't messed around with yet too. Oh yeah, and it's free.

One of the better Apps on my Android phone. Tons of tips and clickable info. And directions to all YOUR favorite lakes :)

Just got it myself.....

Cool app, better that it's free. Def like the friend feature, could come in handy under certain circumstances such as FOGGY conditions. Also got a laugh at the "remove all friends" option, lol.......

Other than that, it's kinda like openin up an issue of the freshwater digest. The fish species and tips section is worded exactly the same. But, I did find a few "interesting" things in the spots/launches section........;)

Even when so called "tresspassing", there's still no secret spots.
How could it be tresspassing when you're more than a mile upstream from said "club" waters?

It's only trespassing if you get caught, lol. ;)
