Tying up to a rock pile

I see guys with a rope attached to rock pile 20 in Raritan Bay. I then have seen them detach and leave the half of the rope in the rockpile. Was curious what they throw into the rock pile as the disposable part.

Metal pipe or 2x4, a release rope should be tied as well as not to leave any rope : hose clamp and some sch. 40 PVC to the pipe to let the rope slide through it like a shackle and loop the line thru so you un-tie at boat and pull line back to you, not leaving any rope, definitely use poly/floating line as well- 2x4 s with a hole in the middle work nice- just spear them in... I do not recommend this at all!

I used to fish blackfish on a charter this way out of SI.

BE CARFUL!

sometimes the 2x4 breaks or slips out and goes flying

Always make sure your not in the line of fire.

But it rocks to try to catch 5-7lb blackfish in 10 ft of water
