Nice day - too many anglers out there.
My first stop of the day...
http://i1060.photobucket.com/albums/...r/e686cf58.jpg 9 cars including my own. This same spot had no more than one car earlier this summer on three occasions. Not anymore. Oh well, still plenty of river to explore elsewhere so I quickly left. Covered about 4 miles of river catching a potpourri of fish including a pb pike that was close to 3 feet long. Took me about 5 minutes to land her on 6 lb test. Quite the battle and for once the big one did not get away:) http://i1060.photobucket.com/albums/...r/0ac910e4.jpg http://i1060.photobucket.com/albums/...r/cb7c7f76.jpg http://i1060.photobucket.com/albums/...r/7a4ee624.jpg http://i1060.photobucket.com/albums/...r/69b03eba.jpg http://i1060.photobucket.com/albums/...r/2aefc7a3.jpg http://i1060.photobucket.com/albums/...r/48ef7097.jpg |

I can tell by looking at the head that its a good sized PIKE. Would have loved to see a full shot of the fish. Nice catch. AWESOME!!!

Re: Nice day - too many anglers out there.
With the water so low, I can see the fish in most of the pools via polarized glasses. There are more Crappie and Yellow Perch in there then you'd think - especially for a moving river. I saw several schools of crappie with some large(>12") fish. I also saw a three large pike right out in the open in foot deep water with no cover around. Just sort of hanging out. Even when spooked they kind of took their time swimming away. LMB were common but mostly <10". Fathead minnows in the shallows(those are the ones that go airborne near shore when you bring your lure in) where everywhere and obviously provide excellent forage for the larger fish. Birds love them too and I saw plenty of herons, egrets and kingfishers. Really nice day only negative is the amount of mud I had to slog through. I can handle the smell, its the undetermined depth part that is tricky. There are 'flats' of mud/debris that appear safe to walk on(especially now its so low) to reach deeper water but no so fast...one wrong step and your up to your thigh in Grade "A" river sludge:D
I did take one 'money' shot as I followed my own rules of only doing this for above avg sized pike: http://i1060.photobucket.com/albums/...r/61aaee92.jpg |
