topwater smallies
1 Attachment(s)
The mist was still rising from the Raritan River this morning when my first cast
hit the water. As soon as I twitched the lure, bang- fish on. I was standing in the middle of the swift water and a snake actually managed to swim by me against the current! I had an egret and a heron keeping me company as well, another beautiful day. I had limited time and had to leave shortly after and walking back to the car I stopped to window shop (stand on the bank and see what swims by) and there THEY were! That's right, THEY! It was "Da Godfadda" and he had his boys with him. Easily the biggest smallmouths I've seen, all three over 20" a serious pulse racing moment! I pitched my paltry lure at them and they laughed at me, they don't want no steenking lure, it's live bait or nothing for these behemoths. I stood there with my jaw open and watched them swim away knowing like Eddie and Arnold, "I'll be back"!!!!!! |
Re: topwater smallies
Try a spinnerbait next time. I had 2 nice ones on my first two casts yesterday on my lunchbreak. Bigger of the two was about 16".

Re: topwater smallies
good idea, they were in water deep enough for a spinnerbait.

Nice catch dude. Im glad somebody else got to see the size of the MONSTER SMALLIES in there. Now somebody just has to catch em up.

Re: topwater smallies
and I think the fact that there were three of them cruising in formation is an indication that the wolfpacks are forming.
