KNOCKOUT BUCKTAILS not 4 sale
 

with all the bucktail posts, figured I would put up a few of my KNOCKOUT bucktails.

I have found leaving the hair collar outside of the thread wraps adds alot more life to the bucktail. Since tying them this way I have never had the hair slip or pull out while fishing them as it adds a pinch point binding the hair tighter.
I stopped using molded eyes on them , as the whole intent was to make bucktails cheaper that I would not mind as much to lose.
as all of the guys fishing in the rough stuff know ,its not IF your going to lose a bucktail its WHEN.
The black painted eyes have seemed to work just as well as the vinyl molded ones, and still give fish the eye spot to key in on when approaching from the front or side.

I really feel using RED thread on the bucktail also helps as it gives a gill coloring where it belongs

Looks great Dan. Had a new bucktailer using my jigs yesterday and he went through at least five jigs before noon. All together lost about ten. Of course I don't charge the guys for the jigs so I hear you on cost. Maybe I will stop putting on the eyes too. Keep them for my personal stuff.

good looking 'tails'. I wonder if the hair sticking out forward of the wrap creates any bubbles like an ofshore lure. lots of good colors!

I had left that collar a little longer and made it red with a sharpie, thinking it would look like a gill moving, but it didnt seem to matter , so keep them short or they will catch dirt in the water like a magnet
