hidden honey hole
Was on my way home from a customer's yesterday when I spotted a patch of cattails near my house. Knowing that cattails mean moisture I decided to check it out. Sure enough behind them was a little pond covered with green slime and crawling with little leopard frogs. It was too shallow but I figured there's probably more further down and man was I right. Around the bend, hidden from the road, was the sweetest little lake stuffed with turtles, snakes, sunny's, and just the right amount of lillypads. I put on my favorite frog, threw right into the pads, and slam something big hit it! Unfortunately as is usually the case with my frogs no hookup. This happened four more times and I left it at that knowing I'd return this morning. I got there at 8am, tied on a smaller frog and bent the hooks out to aid in hook setting. I threw it everywhere for an hour without a bite. While doing so I could see something big was bumping into lillypads in front of me. I switched to a 4" black senko texas rigged and on the second cast it was inhaled by a solid 5lb LM. When I got home I checked on google earth and sure enough there it was the whole time five minutes from my house and I never even knew it. Just goes to show it pays to scout new area, you just might find a hidden honey hole like mine near you!
