Raritan river 7/9:
Finally got my fat azz of the couch and hit the river for a little magic hours fishing near the 2nd 287 crossing. Got alot of small stripers, they seemed to be spread out in the fast water and slow. Got a bluegill and a yellow perch also. No dams or waterfalls where I was fishing, just a big run from fast to slow water.
Coolest thing was when I got down there and started walking the bank in about a foot of water I saw a huge blue claw crab !!! Easy 6" pt. to pt. I was a few miles from the tidal section in New Brunswick. I know Wilson has seen them as far up as Bound Brook while fishing for white perch. The crab was big and healthy. Tons of baitfish along the banks also. |
Re: Raritan river 7/9:
caught the biggest crab of my life from the raritan in new brunswick...i used to wade the river down there every year in late mid/late august thru early september...one trip I got one with one claw that was an absolute monster of a crab...carried him back up in my cooler to the car to measure him...didn't have a tape measure on me so i used a piece of string and stretched it point to point and cut the string...then i released the crab back into the river...went home and measured the string and it was 8 3/4" point to point...went online and did some research and found that it would have been very close if not broken a state record for blueclaw crab...i was pissed i tossed him back in the drink!
