Nice Pickerel from the Millstone

Got this guy on Sat. in the Millstone on a blue/silver Rapala HJ14. Nice thick 23incher. My buddy got 3 smaller picks in the 15in range and got bit off by a good sized unidentified fish. No bass in the boat. Anchored the boat as the sun was going down and threw some catfish bait out and got an eel real quick, so we chunked him up and I got a real fat bullhead on the eel. Still no channel cats yet this year, but at least I had some kind of catfish action.

the millstone had some good channel cat action in late march/early april this year. when other fish get to the liver before channel cats, try using live/cut sunnies or if you catch one, small live eel around 6". i usually fish Rocky Hill, where channels are abundant.

Thats all I really use for catfish is cut sunfish. Thats actually what my buddy caught the eel on believe it or not. Not easy to do with a big chunk of meat on your hook. I've never been up near Rocky Hill yet, but I want to hit that area soon for bass, pickerel and pike.

No pike yet. I really only ever fish the last 5 miles of the river though. I think i may go try a more secluded stretch way upstream and see how it goes. I was thinking about doing it tomorrow on my day off, but this rain is screwing me over. That river is probably gonna look like yoo hoo for a few days now.
