Anchor Assistance
 

OK after doing research still abit miffed on what to buy. Boat is 25ft center console. Fishing out of Manasquan inlet. With that said what size, shape, chain length. and rope length should I be looking at for typical daily use? I understand harsh conditions dictate other options.

Figured ask the guys that are in the same area instead of online opinions.

13lb danforth with 10-15 feet of chain. You should always carry at least 150-200 feet of anchor line, spare thimbles and anchor shackles with you at all times.

Love 'em...the chain is the most important part IMO. It'll help you set anchor quite easily.

The more chain the better and the less scope you need.

Scope is ratio of line to depth from the bow. Typically 7:1.

With enough chain you can cheat scope to 3:1 or even 2:1 with lighter currents and winds.

So knowing that ratio- back calculate how much you need in the way of rode where you anticipate anchoring. If your doing wreck with graple hook style wreck anchors- ditch the chain bc it will could defeat the purpose of the bend away wreck anchor arms.

Remember there are some deep holes. Underneath the VZ Staten Island side the water is 95 deep at high tide.

And yes use good thimbles( eye hole spliced at end of the line), shackles(thimble to chain & chain to anchor connection), etc.



For a boat that size I'd use 3/8 inch line with the long section of chain. Instead of 1/2 inch line. You'll be able to carry more line and lesser strength is meaningless for anchoring.
