Banged them on the South Branch
Fished around the Clinton area this morning. Fish were feeding really good. Caught 10 rainbows, two around 2 1/2 lbs. All caught on butterworms. The trout love them. They work when the fish aren't really on the bite. I use power bait and nightcrawlers too. Not always productive like the butterworms. It's their light yellow color and the smell of their white meat, once a hook is pushed through, that triggers a bite.

Are butterworms like mealworms? Where do you get butterworms?

I actually first bought them for ice fishing many years ago. They are great panfish bait when put on a small jig like a dot or swedish pimple. I've caught thousands of perch, crappie, blue gills, bass and catfish through the ice with them. I carry them in a chew tobacco can when I fish leaving the rest in the refrigerator. Works great. |
