Tying Buck Tails
Materials 1 Buck Tail (Deer or synthetic) 2 Vice (Rotary Type) 3 Tying Thread 4 Bobbin 5 Nail Polish, Crazy Glue 6 Mono Loop (15# test see pic) Getting started first you need to select the tail and color, I used white. Place the jig hook into the vice wrap the base with at least 15 turns of thread.Coat this with either nail polish or crazy glue, let it dry. While waiting get the hair ready use small amounts, building the tail up till you have covered the hook. Finishing wrap over the loop you made, this is easier then using a whip finisher. After pulling the thread thru, clip the end close. Now you can apply the nail polish I recommend 2 coats minimum the jig in the pic has 3 coats. The thread I am using now is Coats & Clark Embroidery Thread, 1100 Yds. 40 Wt.100% Polyester. I use a drill to wind the thread onto small spools to fit the bobbin.. Hope this helps, see Sam for them unfinished jig heads, tie your own and catch some fish. Have fun Richie |
