Cormorants

Does anyone know if N.J. and N.Y. have any plans at all to deal with these birds? My home lake Woodcliff Lake now has over a dozen cormorants feeding like wolfpacks on our trout.Any inquiries i've made to F&W has been met with the same stock answer.(Cormorants are federally protected or we 're looking into it.) Maybe we have to get together on this with letter writing campaigns or phone calls to our elected officials. With all the problems in the world today this may seem trivial to some but hey,we pay for these trout to catch and eat or release not to feed these "devil birds" as i call them. Any ideas or info on this problem is appreciated. Thanks for listening,Jim

Counted 25 at Indian Lake on Tuesday. Saw at least 50 trout eaten in three hours.
We feed the birds....they multiply because of the good nutrition....make babies....and eat more trout.
Never saw these birds 20 years ago. We must be doing a good job if your a commorant.

These birds migrate from south america and are eating a good % of our trout and other fish. They also love to eat saltwater fish. The fall stocking is all but wiped out due to these devil birds. The state is basiclly throwing $$$ out the window and they just dont care! Its a big problem and I know how I would solve it....but I won't say!!

Every time I've been fishing Spring Lake in the last 2 weeks, I've seen comorants coming up in the middle of the lake and sucking down whole squirming trout down their throats..... I've never seen it like this in all these other years.... They're outfishing the heck out of me!!!! :(

I saw this very same thing happening at a local stocked lake. A pack of about 15 would gorge themselves near the dam/ladder then swim off to mid lake I guess to digest, then repeat it all over. They were coming up with some decent sized fish too, Them ugly bastages are very efficient at what they do!

We need an open, no-bag limit season on these birds, along with the damned Canadian Geese. I'd love to take the 12 gauge and pick off these birds in between casts.

The state should give a box of shells for every 25 birds you bring in. Use the meat to feed the homeless.
