srsa trout tourney

So ive decided, after hearing all the, ( not worth it, to many people, ) i wanna give it a shot anyway, its free, my 3 year old loves to fish, and every kid that catches a trout wins something. Ive searched the internet, and the SRSA website and it says free bait, does any one know what,
also by the lookes of the pics online and the size of the pond im guessing all spots have a decent chance of catching a trout. the only thing im looking for are a few tips, im bringing a ultra light, and 2 barbie poles (1 for a back up) sticking to 1 pole per person. and some trout worms and spinners. ive heard alot bout berkley dough bait but never tried the stuff. thanks in advance, and hope to see some of you out there

How did it go? I came up with the idea for this tournament many moons ago while walking the raritan show with some other club members. I feel like it is my kid....I miss opening day at Spring Lake...:(

It was ok.. very crowded... managed one small brookie.. once 11am the sun came up, bite died off.. it was ok.. lot of crossed lines and such.. I would think 2x about doing it again..

It has gotten very popular. I got a few phone calls yesterday from friends who said some big fish were caught. One of my good buddies kid won his division for a 3 1/2 lb rainbow. I know the guys do their best to accommodate everyone. A ton of work goes into it, and obviously you can not please all. If you are an adult looking to catch fish on opening day...it is certainly not the place to be. If you want your kid to eat ten hot dogs, be around a ton of other kids, have a decent shot at catching a monster, get prizes etc...no better place:)

I go to Spring Lake each Opening Day cause it's close to home and it was fun this year having my daughter fishing with me. There were plenty of people there but I don't think it was as crowded as past years and the CATCHING was way down from the last few years...... I went back today and NOTHING was biting for ANYONE! Just fun to be out after this past winter of hibernating!! :)

I am a member of SRSA thought it went pretty good yesterday.

I was walking the lake helping folks set up, freeing up tangles, clearing birds nests, picking up trash.

The whistle blew at 1:30 but I had to leave at 12:30.

I enjoy seeing the kids catch fish, I now look forward to this event every year.

Tons of planning, work and donation $$$ go in to this event.

All the participants I spoke with seem to be having a nice time.
