Bass fishing ponds and lakes
 

Hi, there

I live in Lincoln Park. I am new to this area; I moved from CA last Dec.

I would like to start fishing bass in this area.

Can any of you tell me where to go for shore fishing? My boat is still in CA...

Also, can you tell me where to get the fishing license?

Many tackle shops have licenses and trout stamps.

In Lincoln Park????? can probably fish on most streets :eek:

Some reservoirs on Rte 23; some allow fishing (may need a permit) and some don't allow fishing.

download googleearth and check out the local ponds/lakes/streams. There's a ton of available spots, especially up (north) off Rte 23. There are "NJ Open Space" spots where you can fish in relative seclusion.

You can fish Clinton, Oak Ridge, Echo and Canistear Resevoir. You cannot fish Charlottesburg.
You need a permit from the Newark Watershed commision to fish there. You can go to the Echo Lake Road ofor the permit in West Milford.
Oak Ridge is known for great smallmouth fishing. Echo and Clinton are stocked with trout and Echo has Pike. Canistear ( I live behind it) has great Walleye fishing.
You can also fish Waywayanda State Park that is stocked as well as Aeroflex and Silver lake.
Thats just to name a few in addition to the many streams.

Yes, I realized a boat is a necessity to fish in NJ.

I will bring it as soon as possible!!

A boat is not a necessity. I have caught a ton of bass in this state and have never owned a boat. I'll throw you one bone that is not far from your house. Check out the Ramapo Reservation (not Ramapo State Park). It's right near Ramapo State college. Bergen County. There are 3 small ponds on the property, but the one at the bottom is called Scarlet Oak Pond. It has a great bass population, but once the days get nice, it's gets hammered and the fish can become tough to catch. Pre-spawn can be great and there have been plenty of days where I have caught over 20 bass with several topping 2-lbs. There's lots of shore fishing and you can take a few strolls around the entire lake. Not a bad place to spend a day, but get there early, or even better, when it's raining out. Lots of hikers, runners and dog-walkers. PM me and I'll see if I can think of a couple more. I grew up not far from Passaic County and have fished that part of the state quite a bit.
