Offshore wreck fishing question
 

I'm going on the big jamaica this week for a 18hr offshore trip. Any tips or suggestions on what to bring? I'm using a tsunami 6.6" 25-40 lb MH boat rod w/ a Tekota 500 spooled w? 50 lb power pro. Any info would be much appreciated.

16 to 24 oz of lead, hi lo rigs with 4/0 to 7/0 hooks for seabass, 2/0 to 3/0s for porgies, and maybe a couple cod rigs. Bring some jigs from 10 to 16 oz. for cod and pollack. Also, if you do not have a bunk, bring SLEEPING BAGS. Make sure have a large cooler for fish with plenty of ice and adequate clothing(foul weather gear is recommended) as it can be cold. Finally, your rod and reel will be OK. I have the same rod you are using and although I never used it offshore seabassing, it would work. The forcast for next weekend looks good, so have a great time and catch them up.

any special kind of jigs? or just a regular diamond jig? And I imagine they will sell all that on the boat?

If you are doing 1 rod and reel good luck. It pays to have a backup because of breakoffs. If you have 50 lb braid have a shocker of 40 lb at the end. If you do get hung up the 40 will snap and you don't loose your line in a spot where you don't have enough to hit bottom. Worse comes to worse you can always rent a rod. In my book it's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

As for jigs I like plan hammered diamonds, butterfly jigs, and vik jigs...but hammered diamond is always my go to offshore bottom jig...

In most tackle shops. Always brought just one rod, make or buy plenty of rigs and you will be OK. The sinkers and rigs can be bought on the boat. Good luck.
