Over riding trailer brakes when backing up??
I have a Load Rite 5 Starr trailer with brakes. When I try to back the trailer and boat into my spot, the brakes keep locking up no matter how slow I try to go. I know there is a way to over ride the brakes but I forgot how. I've had the trailer over a year and a half, used it about 40 times and never had this happen. Anyone know the secret to over riding the brakes in revers?
Thanks in advance. |

The pin you use to lock in the ball needs to be moved to a spot a couple inches back. goes through the tongue and stops the surge breaks from engaging

How old is the trailer. If it is newer maybe you do not have the right plug adapter. You need a 5 wire adapter with newer trailers because the brake release valve. When you back up lights on your tow vehicle are engaged it triggers this seleniod to release braking.

Thanks guys. It was the connector plug. It had gotten pretty corroded, I cleaned it up and it works like new.
The over ride was was hookierookie said, I just couldn't remember what they told me when I bought the trailer. That's what old age will do to you. |
