Trailer Lights

My trailer lights have an issue.

When I turn on my headlights, only the running lights work.

When I turn off my headlights, the brake and turn signals work.

This is all well and fine for daytime driving.

The truck is a new 2009 Ridgeline with a 7 way factory installed with a 4 way flat Reese converter .

The trailer wiring was done on Saturday. Brand new wires, wire nuts, dielectric grease, new ground hole drilled and connection. Brand new tailights. Connections are good.

The only thing I can think is that the trailer lights are self grounding and not making a good connection to the trailer frame.

I have never had a trailer hooked up to this vehicle previously, but must assume with 7000 miles, it is functioning. I could be wrong.

Driving to Vermont tomorrow and may have to leave by 3pm to avoid darkness if I cant fix tonight.

Thanks.
