Metallic wrapping thread, love or hate?

1 Attachment(s)
Love it or hate it? I have been using metallic wrapping thread for some time with limited success. I have relegated it to base, trim, and diamond wraps. I generally do all double wraps. I have tried different tensions, different machines, and different thread brands only to be frustrated with the results. Am I missing something? Its stiff , hard to pull back on finishing the wrap, and is generally tough doing top wraps. It's harder than stringing with gut on tennis racquets. Any suggestions?

I think you're on the right track using it for base and trim wraps, that's where I've had the most luck. Honestly, I've found that slowing down the wrapping speed helps a little, and using a thread tensioner can make a difference too.

Glad to see that I'm not the only one having problems. Used 3 different machines with 3 different tensioners. I did do better with the blend metallic thread in C or D. Diamonds came out nice. Hope to get some blanks at the fishing flea market tomorrow to build more rods and try again. Everyone seems to want some form of metallic as one of their main colors. I can always go back to black double wraps and cork tape grips like I did in the 70's.
