Yamaha Outboard Extended Warranty

My initial 3-year warranty will get me through December 2025. So far, the 225 HP engine has performed perfectly and I have had all routine maintenance done by the dealer’s certified mechanic.

Ring Free or Techron Marine at every gas fill. Fresh water flush every trip. End of season 100-hour service showed spark plugs looking almost new, crankcase and lower unit oil also very clean. Just a small bit of water discoloration on the thermostats.

My original Yamaha 225 2-stroke lasted 24 years before I had to repower.

Yamaha offers “YES” extended warranty plans for up to 3 additional years. The 3 year plan is $2400.

I am looking for feedback from marine mechanics and captains that make their living on the water. Are the new outboards so reliable that the chance of a manufacturing defect popping up after 3 years of perfect operation very low; thus making the need for an extended warranty low? If you are a pro captain that has run outboards for the past 5-6 years, have you invested in an extended warranty?

Thanks.

We use mostly Yami 200hps at Sea Tow. How many engine hours do you have?

We've gotten 400+ hrs under pretty abusive conditions. We sell them ideally still under warranty.

204 hrs. I expect to average 100-110 hrs/year. Cruise at 3800-4000 rpm’s. No trolling. Wide open throttle only a few times a year for 2-3 minutes each just to confirm I can hit max rpm’s.

While anything can happen at any time most yami get well over 2000 hours pretty trouble free , some even getting double that .

I’m surprised you didn’t get a 3 and 3 buying the motor new without an extra fee. .
Every time myself or friends bought motors that was given from the door .
.
My last repower was 2019 , I have 1200 hours on them without nothing more than normal service . My 3 and 3 extended ends next July

So if you paid for another 3 years and had 600 hours on them .and have been maintaining them as you say . I would doubt any maintenance issues should arise .

So additional warranty would be more for peace of mind than actual warranty work .

Thanks Dan. I had to buy the new engine at the peak of Covid production and shipping delays from Japan. Took 8 months for delivery. Wonder if during that period of time the 3+3 deal was off the table.
