Black hole 701L

I have built about a dozen rods mostly for under $100. Looking to move up want to build a black hole 701L. Want to try my first acid wrap wondering anyone would be willing to share guide placement specs. A pm would be fine if that is preferred. Thanks... Walt

I just had that exact blank built this past winter. Spiral wrapped as well. Great rod. I’ll be at my boat later today. I’ll post pics and measurements of the guide placement for ya.

Got it Walt.

If anyone wants pics or specs as well let me know. Had this rod built for fluke but turned into one of my favorites and have had it in my hands every trip since spring for multiple species.

Sweet blank and great feel.

I've got the 731M spiral and love it... It's a little stiff for inshore but it will hold 10 ounces no problems and it has just enough feel for me to fish light jigs for Blackfising too.. 701 is much better choice if you're strictly using for lightweight finesse fishing inshore and want a little extra sport.

And Duff, thanks for your contributions here.. You've helped a ton of people over the years! You must be on here for what, 20 years??

Yup. If I remember right the first time I looked at this site was when I moved into my house. June of ‘99

Agreed and yet another friend met on this site and fished with! . Duff you contribute to this site in many ways. I always loved the " wait for it" on drama posts!

Now if we could just get you to pick better Hockey and Football teams you may be someone NJ can name a rest area of!:p

Plan on making a 701L acid wrap for myself and then maybe over the winter a few more for possible sale. From what I see as the cost of blank I feel I could offer the rod at a pretty decent price. Pm me if you might be interested in a future sale.... Walt

Depending on how you’re going to use (bucktail weights etc) for many applications the 701 is a little light .
IMO the 731 M is a better blank for 90% of the fish we can chase inshore .

Watch a guy fight a hard fighting fish on a 701 you will almost always see them high sticking to make up for its lack of back bone .
