PUNTA CANA ADVICE?
My partner devon & I are heading to Punta Cana Sunday, staying at Onyx resort, I figure on packing a couple 2 piece rods for the trip. Just curious if anyone has ever fished from shore down there or if anyone knows any locals that may be able to get us out for some bottom fishing?

Sure ask for local fishing expert Vincente El Toro Raguso he will point you in the right direction

Tried getting out a few times while I was there but the winds had a other plans... A lot of businesses down their fish open or shared charters. If I were you I'd go on someone here in the US recommendations or see the concierge at your hotel since they usually vet companies before the recommend them.

Re: PUNTA CANA ADVICE?
This was in the winter months and the winds there hardly ever let up in the winter. You should be fine this time of year Murr unless your super powers make it through customs. Speaking of Customs, not sure if your place is an all inclusive, if not you can pick up all sorts of booze on the cheap at the duty free shops.
Hope you have a good trip and can get out fishing. |
Re: PUNTA CANA ADVICE?
When I was there I booked a pelagic trip through the resort. Cracked a nice Sailfish and some Baracuda. Price was cheap at the time. The wind is definitely rowdy down there. The entire boat got seasick in my trip. I had to drive the boat so the Cap’n could tend to the pukers at one point. Good times!!!

Re: PUNTA CANA ADVICE?
Eddie that's funny, I had a similar experience about 15 years ago. I booked a spot on a make up 6 person charter through my resort. I got to the boat 1st was bs ing w the capt when 5 guys from canada roll up wearing white sneakers and brown dress socks no joke!! It was windy and a bit bumpy out there within about 45 minutes they were all chumming. The mate and I proceeded to land 2 sails and a bunch of feisty baracuda. I had about 6 breakfast beers and proceeded to offer 1 to the Canucks each time they chummed just to be a jerk!! A fun half day for me at least!! Didn't see anybody playing in the surf Murr but there were plenty of small stuff swimming around when we were swimming. Make sure to throw back some "mamawanna" it's their native strange drink. A bottle with some type of roots in it soaking in rum, after a few shots hold on and get ready for an interesting afternoon!!!
