Finally got to splash the Grateful Dad this weekend, so I headed out with Pete, Kenny and Brayden. Based on some intel from a hungover, baitless, beerless sharpie, I ran out to a likely spot in 75-80 feet of water down the Sandy Hook channel. Conditions were great and we were pretty much alone, so we were able to drift with no problem. Got into a bunch of nice big ling, and a few keeper seabass, including a real nice knucklehead, shown in the rare GD photo.
Nice day on the water with a good crew.

Great catch and good timing I think?

I was out Oceanside 3-5 miles off Hook and down the beach by the Highland Bridge about 16:00 and later on Sunday. Rolling 2-3' bunched up with strong S to SE winds. I assume you were gone by then? You are one tough guy calling that "great" conditions. :)

It wasn't death defying, but not exactly ideal either. A little too sporty for the 19 foot jet boat out of gas I went to find with no GPS.

I rounded Hook about 1800 and there were a dozen boats clustered i/f/o Earle.

Hi Frank, I was long gone by 16:00. The fan turned on around noon, so I got out of Dodge and made it back in time to avoid the slop. Check the seas on the pic of Brayden with the ling. Those are great conditions!

You DID do the right thing. The guy I went out to tow 4 miles off Highland Bridge was not anchored and had no GPS . He ended up blown up by Ambrose approach buoys when I found him.

They we bunched up but not big. But heading south was bouncy and wet ( sounds like an old girl friend I had).

WTH are people thinking??

Was next to 2 guys on SHR Saturday in a 14 ft aluminum with a nine-nine. IDK maybe I’m just getting old but that’s ballsy IMO.
